The Golden Nugget Mine Ride graced the boardwalk of Wildwood for many generations. In operation from it’s creation in 1960 up until 1998, the Golden Nugget was a staple on the boards for any vacationer and ride enthusiast.

Designed by John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and by the great dark ride creator Bill Tracy, they made this truly one-of-a-kind ride for Hunt’s Pier in its glory days of being the “Disneyland of the East Coast”. It was a hybrid of a roller coaster and a dark ride, giving thrills and chills for the whole family. During it’s 38 years of operation (off and on) The Golden Nugget was always a pinnacle of the Wildwood landscape when looking upbeach towards North Wildwood and Morey’s Pier. Unlike some of the posters we will be doing, the Golden Nugget is still around, except it was purchased by Knoebels Amusement Park in 2009 and redesigned as the Black Diamond Mine Ride.

Our artist Michael Yannette was sure to include some of the original pieces, including props and animatronics to pay proper homage to this fantastic ride. Some inspiration was also taken from the Thunder Mountain Poster from Disney for this tribute piece. With it’s original intent in mind like William C Hunt meant it to be, the Golden Nugget was the true east coast version of the iconic Runaway Train Ride.
